Goals Are Killing Your Progress

Good Morning Rogues!

I hope your week has been another step closer to your goals.

I hope you know your priorities.

Take a moment and run through the things that are important to you in your head right now.

The chances are, if you’re anything like me, there are a ton of things that you want to do.

The challenge with this is that’s not how priorities work.

If you have more than 3 priorities, you have a list of “wants” - not a list of priorities.

Hear me out for a second…

I want to accomplish it all (and believe I can) just like you, but the truth is that a lack of focus can absolutely kill your path.

You can have short term and long term goals, but the practice right now is to take that list, and make it into 3 items ONLY.

Yes, only 3.

Pick the top three priorities and establish the path for them.

You can keep the other things that you want as part of your long-term plan, but you’ll never get to those without the focus that you need to accomplish the first 3.

If you’re priorities change, that’s okay, but keep it at no more than 3.

That way you can wake up every day focused on knowing what needs to happen for a “win.”

If you lead a team, this is especially important because having your team focused on too many things can create distraction and frustration.

Repeat your priorities to yourself in your morning routine, and repeat your priorities to your team over and over again.

This type of crystalized focus can lead to serious results.

If you’re having difficulty picking your top 3,

Ask yourself if any of your goals or priorities lead you into the others or make the others easier?

For example, if you want to sell a digital product

You need to make that product, create traffic, establish the back end for taking payments, handle legal paperwork, and several other things.

The priority out of that is whatever comes first.

For many, that means you need to focus on audience growth or creating traffic.

We know that when that part of the equation is covered, everything else comes easier. You could even ask your audience for referrals for the other items you need to accomplish.

ONE BIG THING

Stay focused on the 3 (or less) most important things that you need to accomplish.

A common strategy among start up founders is known as “One Big Thing" or OBT.

This is the strategy used by many start up founders who are drowning with tasks asking for their attention.

They ask themselves, “What’s the One Big Thing I need to accomplish today that would make today a ‘win’?”

Accomplish that one thing, and go onto the next day.

Forget your long list and scratch it down to only the few things that matter most.

You’ll be able to create stronger teams and reach your goals much faster.

As always, I’m here to help if you can’t determine where to focus - I’d love to support you in that way.

Please keep me posted on how I can be of service to you, your career, or your business.

Let’s keep winning together!

Forever Forward,

Rush
